Moving goes way back in the family.

Pow­ell Relo­ca­tion Group start­ed small in 1962 when Bill Pow­ell con­vert­ed his 7UP® deliv­ery truck into Bill’s Deliv­ery Ser­vice. His step sons, Chris and Greg Wing, both joined the com­pa­ny in 1985 and learned the busi­ness from the ground up. Bill always said “treat your cus­tomers and employ­ees fair­ly and your busi­ness will grow and be suc­cess­ful.” We’ve grown because peo­ple like to tell their friends about us. And, our cor­po­rate cus­tomers like the qual­i­ty ser­vice we con­sis­tent­ly pro­vide for their relo­cat­ing employ­ees. Bil­l’s orig­i­nal per­sis­tence, deter­mi­na­tion, and his will­ing­ness to find a solu­tion for any chal­lenge grew the com­pa­ny in Grand Rapids and beyond.

When Bill passed away in 2008, his wife Lor­na became Chair­man of the Board up until her death in 2017. Greg Wing was the CEO from 2010 until he retired in Jan­u­ary of 2019. Chris, Vice Pres­i­dent since 2010, is now the CEO and own­er of Pow­ell Relo­ca­tion Group.

Pow­ell has won The Atlas® top Qual­i­ty Award – the Oscar of the mov­ing indus­try – for 20 years in a row. And, we also receive “Plat­inum-Qual­i­ty” Ser­vice Awards from the biggest names in relocation.

In May 2015, Karen Wing and Chris Wing of Pow­ell Relo­ca­tion Group pur­chased long-time mov­ing com­pa­ny Walk­er Trans­fer. The com­pa­ny became known as Walk­er Trans­fer-Pow­ell, LLC, with Karen acquir­ing a major­i­ty own­er­ship. Short­ly after the pur­chase, the long tra­di­tion of the com­pa­ny’s woman-own­er­ship was cer­ti­fied by the WBENC, the largest cer­ti­fi­er of women-owned busi­ness­es in the Unit­ed States. Today, the com­pa­ny oper­ates as one only 19 woman-owned mov­ing com­pa­nies cer­ti­fied by the WBENC.

The com­bined resources of Pow­ell Relo­ca­tion Group and Walk­er Trans­fer-Pow­ell, LLC increase the reach and mov­ing capac­i­ty of both com­pa­nies: more trucks, more Pro­fes­sion­al Van Oper­a­tors, and more stor­age facil­i­ties. The two com­pa­nies work seam­less­ly to cre­ate greater effi­cien­cies across the board.
